Abstract

This paper discusses the economic policies of the first military government, Humberto de Alencar Castello Branco, from the viewpoint of the industrial businessmen São Paulo. Its goal is to investigate the role of this class in the consolidation of this government, as well as in its relative success in containing the crisis through which passed the country's economy, allowing the resumption of development in the next period. Through this analysis, we determined the fundamental importance of support from businessmen, especially in relation to the results obtained by the program to contain inflation, the Plano de Ação Estratégica do Governo.
