Resumen
Gracias a la recolección de balances individuales mensuales de bancos, que no han sido aún explorados por la literatura, este artículo estudia la evolución y pormenores del sistema bancario argentino entre 1925 y 1935. Utilizando esta nueva fuente, en el análisis se muestra que la situación de la banca comercial argentina fue más compleja y dramática de lo que se ha reconocido generalmente. Sin embargo, aunque intensa y profunda, la crisis bancaria no fue homogénea; la naturaleza y la temporalidad de los problemas, así como sus causas y alcances, variaron significativamente entre bancos o grupos de estos. Como se muestra en el artículo, las razones y motivos detrás de la heterogeneidad de los problemas en los bancos, parecen estar claramente vinculados a episodios de inestabilidad financiera internacional y a la difusión de la crisis bancaria desde los países industriales y los centros financieros internacionales.
