State Aeronautical and Mechanical Industries and the Logic of the Peronist Economic Policy

Abstract

This paper shows the productive development of Industrias Aeronáuticas y Mecánicas del Estado (IAME), a metal-mechanic conglomerate created within the framework of the Second Five-Year Plan of Juan Domingo Peron’s government, and analyzes the economic logic of the Peronist movement in its classical phase. In light of various theoretical and empirical contributions, it will be discussed issues conjugated by the object of study, such as the degree of industrial development reached, the incorporation of technology, the attitude towards foreign capital and the economic density of the Peronist industrialization strategy.
