La historia económica argentina, 1984-2004. Un balance con luces y sombras

Abstract

This article retakes and extends the introduction done by the author to the book La historia económica argentina en la encrucijada. Balances y perspectivas, published by the Argentine Economic History Association in 2006. On the one hand, a reflection is done on the state of the discipline, both in the country and abroad, emphasizing that it has been progressively leaved out of the core of historical studies, and analyzing the causes of that situation. Later, a balance is done on achievements reached in the past 20 years in Argentina, arriving at shadowing conclusions. It is to be emphasized that considerable success has been reached in certain thematic areas and in the study of certain historical periods and regions, but, on the other hand, important emptiness areas still remain, which require to be approached urgently.
