Abstract

This paper aims to describe the managerial experience of a family which came to Mexico from Lombardy, Italy, to get into the business of production and refining rice-crops in the so-called Tierra Caliente of Michoacan (Central-West of Mexico). The emphasis is placed in the different strategies of entrepreneurial organization used by these immigrants in response to the adverse economic, but above all, difficult institutional context that was the transition from Porfiriato to Revolution. According to these purposes, this work deals with the organizational structure of an agro-business which in its origins was born as a family-business but, as time went on, it became, because of growth and the urgent need to share risk, into a consolidated company.
