Abstract
In the last quarter of the Nineteenth century, the local elite of Mendoza, Argentina, fostered provincial economic transformation by orienting it towards the implementation of wine industry. The project was successful. However, there were extra regional negative elements that brought a reduction of wine demand it the consumption centers which meant a short but deep crisis. The essay analyzes several theoretical aspects, elements of vulnerability, and general development of this crisis in relation to the behavior of the Mendoza wine industry.
