Abstract

In 1905, the Mexican government realized the change of the monetary bimetallic system to the pattern change gold. This reform had as purpose to provide of stability to the type of change and the external accounts of the nation. With it seeks to obtain the stability of the public finances and to support an increasing flow of foreign investment to the Mexican economy. This presentation seeks to study the impact of the above mentioned reform from its accomplishment up to the beginning of the Mexican revolution and to investigate if the objective of the reform were fulfilled in the short term. Prominent figures of the politics and the contemporary business to the facts gave its positions on this matter of interest for the Mexican society. This one is one of the aspects that the work tried as a thread that allows to clarify the impact of the reform in the different economic activities.

Es profesora de tiempo completo de la facultad de Economía, UNAM. Doctora en historia por el Colegio de México. Premio Universidad Nacional de Docencia (2000). Titular de la cátedra extraordinaria Antonio Sacristán Colas. Especialista en historia económica y del pensamiento económico en México. Entre sus publicaciones se encuentran, como autora y coordinadora, Algunos debates sobre política económica en México. Siglos XIX y XX (2008); Temas a debate: moneda y banca en México, 1884-1954 (2006), coord. con Leonor Ludlow, e Historia del pensamiento económico en México (2005). Como coautora: La Colonia (2004) y Las contingencias de una larga recuperación económica 1821-1867 (2004), y como autora: Minería y guerra (1997).
