Abstract

This store is about the business career of one of the most oustanding men of the financial elite of Guadalajara during the second half of the XIXth Century, a businessman who was born in a golden cradle and forging his personal and family fortune at the beginning od the Porfirio Diaz Regime. His business activities contributed to the modernization of the Guadalajara region. He participated in establishing a series of companies and assumed his father’s responsibilities in others. He also played an active role in de region, together with important local entrepreneurs. Whithout a doubt, he was an important part of a complex business netwok wich included in laws –who were also businessmen themselves– and the most influential entrepreneurs of those years.

Gladys Teresa Lizama Silva

Estudió la licenciatura en historia en la Universidad de Chile, obtuvo el grado de maestría en ciencias sociales, en estudios latinoamericanos en la Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), sede México y ha recibido el grado de doctor en ciencias sociales con especialidad en historia por CIESAS Occidente y la Universidad de Guadalajara. Ha publicado el libró Zamora en el porfiriato. Familias, fortunas y economía (200), dos libros colectivos Modernidad y Modernización en América Latina. México y Chile, siglos XVIII al XX (2002) y México y Cuba, siglos de historia compartida (2005) y varios artículos en revistas especializadas. Varios años trabajó como investigadora en El Colegio de Michoacán, actualmente, se desempeña en el Centro Universitario de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades de la Universidad de Guadalajara.
