Abstract
The occurrence of commercial contraband is part of Caribbean History. The present article is about the implications of contraband in the city port of Cartagena de Indias in the XVI and XVII centuries. It indicates where to find historical records and some related theoretical tools in order to understand the commercial dynamics created by this activity, in this city so crucial to the commerce of the region.
