Abstract

This article responds to the question "How did XIX-century politicians combine their political ideas with speculative and entrepreneurial projects?" In other words, to describe, through an analysis of a moment in Manuel Payno's political career, one of the ways that private interests, social networks and modernizing objectives interacted in the mid-XIXth century economic climate.
